Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Opinion article

A short, single-author piece that defends a clear and explicit stance on a contested topic. The argument is personal and direct, and its purpose is to

provoke debate. It may draw on evidence but need not be exhaustive. The tone

is declarative.

 

Perspective article

A short piece that analyzes an emerging trend, a recent development, or an open question in the field. Rather than defending a position, it builds an interpretive framework and identifies implications. The tone is analytical, and the goal is to orient discussion rather than settle it.

Review

A critical assessment of a book, article, tool, or cultural work relevant to the scope of HHS. It summarizes the work, situates it within the wider conversation, and offers a reasoned judgment. The aim is not only to describe but to evaluate, guiding readers toward what merits attention. The tone is critical and informed.

 

Case / Field note

A brief, focused account of a concrete experience: an observation, an experiment, a failure, or a practice drawn from research or fieldwork. It does not aim for generality but reports something particular that others may find instructive. The tone is descriptive and candid.

 

Interview / Dialogue

A conversation with a figure/s from different fields, on a question relevant to HHS. Its length is unrestricted, allowing an idea to be developed at the depth the exchange requires. The aim is to surface perspectives and tensions that a single-author piece cannot. The tone is conversational.

Open publication

A contribution that does not fit the categories above. The format is free: a visual essay, an experimental text, a dataset with commentary, a manifesto, or any document the author considers relevant to the scope of HHS. The editorial team evaluates each open submission individually, both for fit and for the most suitable form of publication.

Brief research

A concise report of original work, theoretical or numerical, that presents a new result. It states a question, the method used to address it, and the finding, without the length of a full research article. The aim is to share a contribution that stands on its own evidence. The tone is rigorous and precise.
